TransAction Theatre Company creates innovative interdisciplinary cross-cultural collaborative 'performance from the periphery' - questioning LGBT+ boxes, calling for a world beyond gender binaries, transcending boxes and boarders with intersectional politics of allegiance. Since 2002 in Manchester UK Joey Hateley (They / Them) Artistic Director, has been headhunted as a performer and collaborated with marginal communities to empower and celebrate diversity through tailor made performance, film and multi-mixed mediums.

As the Artistic Director of TransAction Theatre I collaborate to create innovative cross-cultural 'performance from the periphery,' on issues of identity, inclusion, diversity and empowerment. I identify as a female man whose work question’s LGBT+ boxes, calling for a world beyond gender binaries, transcending borders of difference through 'intersectional politics of allegiance'. As a writer-performer-deviser, educator and art-activist who creates interdisciplinary experimental work, I run a wide variety of multi-disciplined projects for theatres, conferences, cultural events, training for organisations, specific interest groups, artists, actors and university students. Since my BA Hon's, PGCE distinction in theatre and MA in Ed.research and women's studies 20 years ago, I have collaborated with MIF, The Men's Room, IOU, Mothers Ruin, LGBT History Month, 'diRTy' integrated BSL DadaFest with InterPlay, ‘Drag King Richard III’ Bristol Shakespeare festival, Arnolfini, Trans-Scripts Verbatim, National Theatre South Bank, The Young Vic, Vital Xposure, FilmPro, RSC, Gaydio, Club Wotever Hackney Empire, Duckie Vauxhall Tavern, Stockholm PRIDE, Fresh Fruit Festival New York, Malmo Arts Festival, Montreal Meow Mix, Casa Trans Ecuador, trans sex workers in Thailand, drama workshops in India, Namibia, Peru and South Africa, devising solo with Peggy Shaw (Split Britches) Drill Hall London, Queer Contact, Homotopia, GlasGay, Oval House, Queer-Up-North, CAN, SpeakEasy The Greenroom, Apples & Snakes BBC Radio4 and toured self-devised multi-media show A:Gender across the UK, Australia, Belgium, Sweden, Canada and New York. I have also worked with Ron Athey, Franko B, Stacey Makishi, Jonzi D, Vag Davis, Rikki-Beadle Blair, David Hoyle, Penny Arcade, Del LaGrace Volcano and Diane Torr. I am currently on MIF's People's Forum and working with The Men's Room, Z-Arts, LGBT History Month and mixed media Manchester artists and minority communities with ACE funding devising a live theatre, digital, hybrid on-line performance that will tour nationally and internationally.
